After admitting that Benfica are not in control, Benfica manager Roger Schmidt has hinted that midfielder Enzo Fernandez could join Chelsea before the transfer window closes on Tuesday night.
“We all know that we have a situation with Enzo, that he has a clause in the contract, so that means if the player wants and there is a club that pays this amount of money, you cannot stop that,” Schmidt said, according to Absolute Chelsea.
“At the moment, he is our player, and there is no deal. We’ll see what happens over the next couple of days.”
“Our player is Enzo,” he added. Of course, he has our full backing. He is a wonderful person and player, as I have previously stated.
“That subject. You should always expect something to happen while the transfer window is open.
“We’ll see what happens in the next two days. My attitude hasn’t changed in the last few weeks. I appreciate that he was able to refocus on Benfica following discussions in early January.

“He was a key player for Benfica. His attitude and patience for Benfica are present. But we all know how the football business works. I’m at a loss for words.”
“I think we always have to prepare everything in the background, especially at the end of the transfer window, especially when you’re not in the driver seat,” Schmidt says of having a Plan B for Enzo Fernandez if he leaves.
