According to the Department of State Services (DSS), Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has ties to the separatist group Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
According to reports, the DSS made the proposal in a tweet on Tuesday, pointing out that Emefiele is represented by the same lawyer as IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
The DSS’s tweet comes after the Nigerian government charged Emefiele with illegal possession of guns last week. A judge earlier this month overturned Emefiele’s arrest and custody, but he was then charged with gun offenses.
Godwin Emefiele was named governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria in 2014.
On June 9, 2023, President Bola Tinubu suspended him, and he was later arrested by the DSS.
