The Election Petition Tribunal in Lokoja has validated the election of Senator Sunday Karimi, the legislator representing Kogi West senatorial constituency in the National Assembly.
After reviewing the petition, the tribunal validated Senator Karimi’s election and dismissed the petitioner’s plea in its whole as lacking merit and being wholly unjustified.
The tribunal stated that the majority of legitimate votes cast in the election belonged to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Karimi, and so ordered the plaintiff, T.J. Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to pay a N150,000 fine to the respondents.
According to reports, Yusuf petitioned the tribunal over the non-use of the BVAS machine in some areas, accusing the ruling APC of manipulating the Kogi West senatorial election in 2023.
In response to the court decision, Karimi stated,
“The choice of voting for me on the ballot has been further proven.”
