According to a statement released by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Sunday, US forces killed ISIS leader Usamah al-Muhajir in an attack in eastern Syria on Friday.
Al-Muhajir was killed by the same MQ-9 reaper drones that were harassing Russian aircraft in the region. According to the US, the two incidents occurred on the same day, with the drones carrying out the strike after meeting with Russian craft.
“We have made it clear that we remain committed to the defeat of ISIS throughout the region,” CENTCOM commander Gen. Michael Kurilla said. “ISIS continues to pose a threat not only to the region, but far beyond.”
CENTCOM confirmed that there were no evidence that any civilians were killed in the hit, but the US and its allies were investigating reports of civilian casualties.
