Chelsea will begin the year 2023 with a football match against Nottingham Forest in today’s game.
The majority of Premier League teams played yesterday, but Chelsea has been selected to play in one of two New Year’s Day matches, against Nottingham Forest in the late afternoon.
Graham Potter will already know his starting lineup, and it is likely that we will see much of the same as we did in the 2-0 win over Bournemouth earlier this week.
This means that Kai Havertz will lead the line again in the number 9 position. Havertz played well this week, and he was quite free roaming in that position. It worked well, and of course, he achieved his goal and was satisfied.
Potter discussed Havertz on the Chelsea website ahead of the game, saying he likes Havertz playing in that position.
“Kai is only 23 years old,” Potter begins.
He came to the United States after having a fantastic season in Germany, but he is still a young player.
“You can’t do anything about the price tag and all that goes with that, and there’s an expectation, but he’s still a young player that’s learning the game and has fantastic quality. As a nine, I believe he adds flexibility and variability to the game. He can come in and score, but he can also threaten the backline. As a result, I like him in that role.
We’ve had to adjust a few things because of the time we’ve had. It’s nice to have that clarity, but it’s not always possible. Because the players’ abilities are diverse, they can play in a variety of positions. Kai is one of those people.
“I have to make the decision based on what I think every day in training, and Kai is a German International who scores goals and plays for the German national team, and his goal record there is elite level,” he says. Whenever he’s played there, he’s been able to score and contribute to the team.”
