Jorginho, a Chelsea player, has joined Premier League rivals Arsenal on transfer deadline day. The Italian midfielder spent four and a half years at Stamford Bridge, where he won the UCL and other honours.
Arsenal opted for Jorginho after failing to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton.
Jorginho’s departure was announced in an official statement on Chelsea’s website.
“Jorginho has moved permanently from Chelsea to Arsenal. After four and a half years at Stamford Bridge, the Italian international leaves after helping us win the Champions League, Europa League, Club World Cup, and Super Cup. Jorginho was also our vice-captain for the majority of his time at the club.
Emirates FA Cup: Why I, Jorginho laughed at Timo Werner- Mason Mount
“While at Chelsea, Jorginho cemented his place in the Italy team. He started every game in the postponed Euro 2020 tournament, which they won with a victory over England at Wembley. That success, combined with our own continental triumph a few weeks earlier, helped him earn personal honors such as UEFA Men’s Player of the Year and a third-place finish in the Ballon d’Or voting.
“Off the field, Jorginho is a friendly and funny guy who leaves Chelsea with 213 appearances and four winners’ medals, the most valuable of which is the 2021 Champions League victory in which he played a key role.
“Wishing you the best of luck in the future, Jorgi!”
