Thomas Tuchel, the former Chelsea manager, has been chastised for signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona last summer.
According to Jamie Redknapp, Aubameyang was never the solution to Chelsea’s scoring problems, and the 33-year-old striker is past his prime.
Aubameyang has only scored one Premier League goal since joining Chelsea from Barcelona, and he spurned a late chance to score in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.
“He wasn’t the answer at Arsenal, and he’s not going to be the answer now at Chelsea,” Redknapp said.
“He’s growing older. He’s no longer the player he once was. They’re trying to get [Christopher] Nkunku, that’s the player they’re after; I’m not sure if they’ll get him.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea record signing Romelu Lukaku has revealed his desire to join Inter Milan permanently.
Tuchel, a former Chelsea manager, is one of four candidates to take over Real Madrid
The Belgian forward returned to Inter on a €8 million loan deal last summer, one year after re-signing for Chelsea for a club record fee of £98 million.
“I talked to Chelsea about my relationship with the coach, and I decided to come back to Inter,” Lukaku told Sky Sports Italia. Everything went very quickly, and I’m pleased.
“I hope to stay at Inter, Inter for me is everything. But we have to work out a solution with Chelsea.”
