Marc Cucurella, who joined Chelsea from Brighton last summer, is the man in question.
Cucurrella: The Blues are thought to have paid £62 million for the full-back, beating out Manchester City at the time.
Cucurella has started the majority of Chelsea’s games this season at left-back due to Ben Chilwell’s injury problems.
However, he has not been at his best and has received some criticism.
Cucurella’s performance against Manchester City last month drew harsh criticism:
“For me I was not happy with Cucurella in that second half, right until when he came off. “He can’t defend,” Jamie Carragher said on Sky Sports.
“I was watching him play one-on-one, and when we talk about someone who can’t defend, I think someone who doesn’t want to defend is actually worse. He appeared to be unwilling to defend in one-on-one situations.”
Former Chelsea player Frank Leboeuf has now slammed the club for spending so much money on the former Barcelona defender:
Chelsea transfer news and updates: Manchester United ownership bid, Kante priority, and Joao Felix stance
“We need Reece James and Ben Chilwell back in shape as soon as possible,” Leboeuf told ESPN. “We no longer wish to see Cucurella. With all due respect to an unknown man, the player is ineligible for Chelsea. That’s it.
“It’s insane that they signed him for £60 million or £70 million but we can see that he doesn’t belong at this level.”
