Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, the outgoing Governor of Kano State, has left a swelling debt profile of N75.6 billion and N241.3 billion liabilities for the new government of Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Alhaji Usman Alhaji, speaking while passing over the mantle of authority to Yusuf, the outgoing Secretary to the State Government, said the Ganduje government had done its best in administering the affairs of the State.

Alhaji observed that the State was responsible for N9.2 billion of the N75.6 billion, while the 44 Local Government Areas were responsible for N66.3 billion.

In response, the incoming Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, expressed surprise at the deviation from the conventional method of handing over authority in the State, which Kwankwaso used from 1999 until 2015 when he passed over to Abdullahi Ganduje.

BREAKING: “You’ll be investigated” – Kano State Governor-elect promises to look into Ganduje’s massive debts

In fact, Kwankwaso wanted to stay behind for Ganduje’s swearing-in, so I see no reason why Ganduje couldn’t stay to hand over, but he sent a letter saying he wanted to hand over by 9 p.m., which we rejected because it violated constitutional provisions.”

“However, we insisted that it had to be today but by 9 a.m., and surprisingly, we received very scanty handing over; even the transition committee handing over was also scanty after we had suffered, including going to the press; however, we are collecting what is being submitted to us.”

“It is so disheartening that the government has left a debt profile of over N241 billion; where will the money come from?” And the internal revenue being discussed is nothing to write home about.

“I pray to Allah to reward Ganduje for his actions.”

Yusuf, on the other hand, exonerated the SSG for doing his best, including offering possible and good recommendations that was refused.
