A Magistrate’s Court in Yaba, Lagos State, has remanded a 24-year-old man, Jacob Ekene, at Ikoyi Correctional Center for allegedly impregnating a 14-year-old girl at her aunt’s house in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos.

Magistrate P. E. Nwaka remanded Ekene after he was accused on three counts of conspiracy, r*pe, and inflicting bodily damage.

Ekene was reported to have committed the deed with his companion Olamilekan Saidi. The event occurred after the victim’s aunt, who assisted the suspect in registering for his National Identification Number card, urged him to come to her house to pick it up.

When the suspect arrived at the house, he discovered the minor alone. He allegedly r*ped the 14-year-old girl while her aunt was away and then threatened to murder her if she told anybody about what happened.

Ekene has reportedly been visiting the house since defiling the juvenile, often in the company of one of his buddies, Saidi, who was also accused of having carnal knowledge of the minor.

The pregnancy was discovered when the victim’s aunt began to notice changes in her body. When questioned, she said that Ekene had carnal knowledge of her and threatened to kill her with a knife if she told anyone.

The girl’s aunt called the cops and transported her to a local hospital, where a pregnancy test proved that she was already pregnant.

Ekene was apprehended, but his accomplice, Saidi, fled after learning that police were on his tail.

The charge against Ekene was as follows:

“That you, Jacob Ekene, and one Olamilekan Saidi, who is still at large, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit defilement and unlawful grievous bodily harm on October 17, 2022, around 3.30 pm, in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”

However, the defendant did not enter a plea. When the Magistrate asked to meet the youngster, he was told that she had been returned to her parents in Imo State due to what had happened.

Nwaka remanded the defendant to the Ikoyi Correctional Center for 30 days for legal advice from the DPP and continued the case until May 25, 2023.
