After revealing that his Chelsea teammate had the “same phone for 10 years,” Germany star Kai Havertz has spoken candidly about N’Golo Kante’s lifestyle.
Chelsea latest news today: Since breaking onto the scene at Leicester City in 2015, Kante has become a fan favorite, with the Frenchman playing a key role in the Foxes’ incredible Premier League title win.
The 31-year-old former Leicester City midfielder joined Chelsea in 2016, with the Blues paying a reported £30 million fee.
During his time at Stamford Bridge, Kante won the Premier League, the Champions League, the Europa League, and the FA Cup.
The France international’s contract with Chelsea expires in the summer, and he has been linked with a move away from the Blues, with PSG among the clubs interested in him.
Kante has often been admired for his humble lifestyle off the field, which included owning a Mini Cooper and driving it to training sessions.
Havertz revealed to The Guardian that Chelsea teammate Kante;
“Doesn’t care” about lavishly spending his money on things like cars and clothes.
“There’s a stereotype of football players, all fancy and diamonds and this and that,” he explained.
“I’ve met players who spend so much money on things that you wonder, ‘Why do you do this?'”
“Some players don’t care, but others do.” It is not always possible to say, ‘I did this.’ That can be a little phony at times.
“I’ve met a variety of people. Toni Kroos is one: she’s calm, down-to-earth, and doesn’t care about flashy things. He understands that life is more than just football.
“Another is N’Golo Kante. He’s had the same phone for ten years, doesn’t like cars, and doesn’t like clothes.
“You can’t judge people based on their spending.” I don’t mind if that makes them happy. Perhaps they are good people at heart, but they just want to appear so.
“Perhaps it’s a form of protection at times.”
