The police in Lagos State arrested a 26-year-old man named Akpannu for allegedly stabbing a preacher with a machete and giving him a bogus prophecy.
In May 2023, the accused reportedly fired Prophet Anayochukeu, pastor of one of the new generation congregations, for allegedly giving him a false prophecy.
The incident is believed to have occurred at the church’s headquarters in the Lagos neighborhood of Ijesha.
The accused alleged that the pastor told him during a prayer session that he was about to lose his sister unless particular prayers were spoken.
The accused claimed that a pastor had previously advised him that in order to be successful in business, he needed to do spiritual cleaning, which required him to purchase coconut and dry gin to pray with.
Angered by the earlier prophecy, which the accused claimed did not work, he attacked the second pastor inside the church with a cutlass.
