Nigeria vs Algeria, Previous, Team News, Probable Lineup, and Prediction

Super Eagles will be returning to action for the first time in almost 11 months when they come up against the Desert Foxes of Algeria in preparation for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Gernot Rohr is with the aim of using this first of 2 friendly games in 5 days to examine his players, integrate the new invitees into the team and continue with his project of building a team capable of challenging in any major tournament.

Algeria happens to be that tough test the Super Eagles can have at the moment. Djamel Belmadi’s men are currently on a 19-game unbeaten run. The last time they lost a game was back in October 2018 and they will be hoping to extend this fine form against Nigeria.

The last time both teams met was in the Afcon semi-finals where Riyad Mahrez’s late goal dumped Nigeria out of the competition to eventually become champions. Nigeria, since then, haven’t lost a game.

The last 5 meetings between these two teams have seen Nigeria won 3 times, drew 1 and lost 1.

Team News

Nigeria: One main concern for Rohr ahead of the game is the absence of his regular midfielders who have withdrawn due to various reasons. These players are Aribo, Ndidi and Etebo. Osimhen is also out of the game and Onuachu might take his place in the starting lineup while Dessers might be handed his debut from the bench.
