Due to the ongoing EndSARS protests in Nigeria in which people in the country were showing how unhappy they are, due to how the security operatives, SARS, are brutalising and killing the citizens in the country, the former president of Nigeria, identified as Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has advised the acting president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, on what to do about the ongoing protests.
According to the report, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo advised President Muhammadu Buhari to demonstrate his care for the youths by attending to their demands.
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo made this statement while speaking at the palace of Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, in Osun state on Monday, October 19, 2020.
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who described the #EndSARS protest as the product of an extensive agitation by the Nigerian youths, explained that the youths are clamouring for a better life.
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo said there many ways which the government can use to show its concern about the issue by making things easier for them.
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo said that more than 65 percent of our population is under within the ages of 18 and 30. He said they are not only struggling to acquire education, but aspiring for the best that life can offer them as well.
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo said that some Nigerian youths didn’t even get educated, while those who were educated among them are getting frustrated just because of lack of opportunities.
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo added that Nigerians must realize that the lid on the boiling steam would have to be removed.
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in his words further noted that, he believed that there are many windows of opportunity which the Nigerian government can explore so as to show that it cares about the people’s welfare, especially the youths, as the father of the country and particularly, as the father of the youths.
