President Bola Tinubu appointed Rear Admiral Emmanuel I. Ogalla as the 24th Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) on Monday night.
Vice Admiral Auwal Zubairu Gambo, the 23rd CNS, succeeds him.
Rear Admiral Ogalla, from Enugu State, is a member of the Nigeria Defence Academy’s (NDA) 39 Regular Course.
After the 12th CNS – Rear Admiral – he is the second Igbo-born Chief of Naval Staff.
Allison Amaechina Madueke, a native of Enugu State like Ogalla, served in that role from November 1993 until August 1994.
Rear Admiral Ogalla previously served as the Director of Lessons Learned at NHQ (PPLANS).
According to Naval Headquarters, he was named Director Lessons Learned on January 2, 2022.
Director Audit on 17/03/2021; DPR on 08/04/2019; Directing Staff at the National Defence College (NDC) on 16/01/2017; Deputy Director Hydrography at the Naval Headquarters on 28/03/2016; and Commandant, Hydrography School on 29/08/2014 were his previous assignments.
On 03/11/2014, the senior officer completed the Post NDC MSc Programme at the University of Ibadan, and on 05/09/2013, he completed NDC Course 22.

He was appointed BOO on 20/08/2009; SOII SURVEY 24/07/06 at the Hydro office; he attended the Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, Kaduna State, Senior Course 28 on 03/08/05.
GSS, DSS, MSS, FSS, psc fdc, BSc Maths were all awarded to Real Admiral Ogalla.
