The U.S. President, Donald Trump has requested for the termination of section 230 of the 1996 communications defense act which provides absolute cover for social media platforms from any liability over posts on their sites.

The president made a post on his verified Twitter handle where he cited the dangers of still leaving the section active and the security challenges posed by the social media platforms. He further threatened to delay the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) if section 230 is not abolished.

In the original post on his Twitter handle, he wrote, “Section 230 which is a liability shielding gift from the U.S to Big tech (the only companies in America that have it-corporate welfare!), is a serious threat to our National security and Election integrity.

Our country can never be safe and secure if we allow it to stand. He also wrote,

“Therefore if the very dangerous and unfair section 230 is not completely terminated as part of the National Defense Authorization Act NDAA I will be forced to unequivocally veto the bill when sent to the very beautiful Resolute desk. Take back America Now. Thank you!”
