Election Tribunal: Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), the lead counsel for Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi, has vowed to expose the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for allegedly withholding essential documents, claiming that the electoral umpire is most likely attempting to manipulate the documents before releasing them.
In the three weeks allocated to his team to present their case, he says he will focus on the most essential witnesses in the case.
This was said by Uzoukwu during a chat with journalists on Tuesday at the tribunal’s pre-hearing in Abuja.
We have written five letters confirming our willingness to pay and our readiness to obtain those documents. The letters were received and approved by INEC. Why are they lying when they say we can’t pay? This is quite unfortunate.
“What about the documents we’ve gathered?” Don’t we have to pay for them? Of course, we paid for them, and those were provided to us, but they refused to give us the others,” he explained.

Obi’s lawyer also stated that his party would issue a subpoena to INEC as soon as the court begins on May 30 (the day after the inauguration) to compel them to produce the papers.
According to the lawyer, his team will handle the three weeks permitted by focusing on the most important witnesses who will prove the case.
Concerning petition consolidation, Uzoukwu stated that all three petitions will be considered simultaneously, but each will retain its own character.
