UCL: Chelsea coach, Thomas Tuchel should be ready to face Zenit Saint Petersburg on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 as both clubs set to boost or increase their points in the UEFA Champions League, UCL.
Chelsea will travel to Russia on Wednesday evening for their last Champions League group H fixtures against Zenit St Petersburg.
The Premier League side would go into the game with the hope to win all three points to finish top of the Group H table after beating Juventus 4-0 at Stamford Bridge in their last fixture.
Meanwhile, the Blues suffered their second Premier League defeat of the season on Saturday afternoon after losing 3-2 to West Ham, and they would be looking to return to winning ways against the reigning Russian Premier League Champions.
However, Chelsea has struggled with injuries in recent weeks with the likes Kovacic, Kante, Chalobah, and Havertz all out for some time now.
And given their next Premier League game is a must-win game for them if they want to continue to challenge for the title, it would be wise to bench some key players against Zenit to avoid more injuries ahead of their next Premier League game in the weekend, this is because they have already qualified for the round of 16 of the Champions League.
And I suggest that Tuchel should drop the likes of Reece James, Timo Werner, Mason Mount, and Edouard Mendy against the Russian Premier League side on Wednesday evening. He can start with the likes of Azpilicueta, Lukaku, Ziyech, and Kepa who have not played many games so far this season.
Lukaku has struggled to score in the last couple of months, but more game time could help him return to form very soon.
Nevertheless, a win against Zenit is also very for Chelsea, as it would help them finish as Group H leaders. And they could still win the game comfortably if they approach it with huge hunger to win from the beginning, and also avoid making some defensive mistakes as they have been doing in their last games.
