Dr. Kadiri Akeem, an Associate Professor of Botany at the University of Lagos, has been accused of having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 20-year-old female undergraduate.
The victim reported the incident to the Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation, who reported it to the Gender Unit of the state Police Command.
The Commissioner of Police issued a warrant for Babalola’s arrest through the state High Court, and the Vice Chancellor of the institution was given seven days to produce him.
Babalola admitted to the crime upon questioning, and the VC informed the police through the school’s Chief Security Officer.
Babalola was arrested and is expected to appear in court in the coming days. The incident highlights the ongoing issue of sexual harassment and sexual assault in Nigeria.
