In a memorial tribute on Friday, Nigeria President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu praised the late President Umar Musa Yar’Adua for his commitment to democracy and good government, promising to continue in his footsteps.
“We’ll Never Forget You!” exclaimed Tinubu. Today, as always, I remember late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, my good friend and brother in the struggle for democracy and good government in Nigeria, who died on this day 13 years ago.
“May 5, 2010 may have passed, but the wound remains fresh for some of us.” We remember the day as much as we remember Mallam Umaru Yar’Adua’s purposeful life.
“As a friend and political associate, I cherish the late Yar’Adua’s memories of honesty, steadfastness, patriotism, and excellence in public service as governor of Katsina State (1999 to 2007) and president of Nigeria (2007 to 2010).
“As I prepare to take over as President of this country on May 29, I am committed to follow in the footsteps of leaders like Mallam Umaru Yar’Adua, who demonstrated an uncommon sense of propriety and selfless dedication to our beloved country.
“Relax, dear brother. May your soul find eternal peace with your Creator, ameen.”
